Christmas Arrangement

I always try to work with what is flowering in my garden instead of purchasing material that often has a huge carbon footprint, flying in from exotic places.

The Christmas season in Sydney sees Agapanthus, Hydrangeas and Gardenia in abundance. I am fortunate to have Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos), also in abundance in my garden, which is in full flower, hence the arrangement below.

I don’t think Kangaroo Paw is often seen as a Christmas flower, so I arranged it in a wooden box with a tartan ribbon to represent a Christmas gift. To soften the rigid form of the Kangaroo Paw I have added clusters of Purple Fountain Grass (Pennisetum). The leaves of the Fountain Grass sway gently in the soft summer breezes creating a cooling effect
