Disassemble and rearrange.

The third workshop with Master Mori Sairin was a lesson in Textbook #4 – ‘Disassemble and rearrange’. Many find this lesson a challenge because one feels they are ‘destroying ‘the beauty of the material. If we think about it the moment, we pick the plant material we have already started the process of destroying it.

Because the decline of the material has started this is an opportunity for us to discover the inner qualities and aspects of the material, we never take time to see.

I selected a branch of Tipuana tipu (commonly known as Rosewood tree and Pride of Bolivia), removing all the leaves then the winged seed pods, leaving the branches totally bare. Lacing the seed pods on very fine wire I was able to spiral the mass into a ‘rustic’ rosette which forced its way out of the top of the container. The bare branches are inserted into openings on the bottom section of the container, which can offer a second water source.
