Focusing on Water and pattern.

My passion for water is lifelong whether swimming, sailing, watching or trying to paint the power of water, etc. so when it comes to ikebana I feel like a ‘kid in water’.
I have used tension to hold the straight stems in place to make a geometric grid. The added interest of Ligularia flowers placed randomly draws your eyes to the different sizes of the grid. I just noticed I have four flowers something I advise my students try not use four of the same kind. Why because in some cultures it is seen as bad luck.
Another aspect of water is the surface tension, and you will notice how the water either curves up at the side of your vessel, or bend in when something is pushed onto the surface. Notice the ‘silvery’ line along on of the straight lines, this is where the water bends down.
