Lesson with my Sensei in Meguro

After almost a year I enjoyed returning to Fukushima sensei’s studio in Meguro.
I set about working with the material handed to me, I must admit I relish in such challenges. The material consisted of Persimmon (Diospyros genus – the Fuyu kind which are firm and very nice to eat), small Fan palm (Washingtonia) and Fantail Willow (Salix udensis). I used a splitting fixture method for the upper section of the work then made use of the very narrow opening in the front to insert additional palm leaves. The work was super tall because I didn’t want to remove the interesting lower sections of the Fantail Willow.
