One Kind of Leaf Only.

The second workshop with Master Mori Sairin had an interesting theme, ‘One Kind of Leaf Only’. You may think this an easy topic but in hindsight restricting the material to one kind added an extra challenge.
I selected to work with Aspidistra leaves but didn’t want to go down the track of shredding, folding etc. which in my eyes is quite predictable. Ruling out those options it left me searching for ideas of how else I can display the leaves keeping in mind not to destroy the character of the material
Working around a tall slender container I wrapped the leaves around the body holding it in place by ‘sewing’ it closed with the stiff stem of the leaf.
Due to the ‘toughness’ of these leaves (commonly known as Cast Iron plant) this arrangement could last several days without a water source.
