Small but not miniature.

The sizes of ikebana arrangements vary considerably from miniature to huge installations and everything in-between.

The general ruling for miniature is the vessel is supposed to be small enough to fit into the palm of your hand with fingers wrapping around the form. The next size up would be classified as small arrangements. This is where the arrangement could be scaled up to something much bigger because you are using the whole forms such as flowers or leaves. In miniature one takes only part of the flower to draw your attention to the finer details of the material.

As seen here in my work today I have used small pieces of sandstone and Geranium flowers and leaves. If the work was to be classified as Miniature I would have used maybe one tiny piece of stone and a petal from the flower. If this was the case the entire work would have fitted into the palm of my hand.

I had fun trying different settings and balancing came into play especially when I tried to hold the water vial for the flower.
