'Surprise Box'

It is always exciting to be challenged with unknown material and unknown container. Personally I think it often brings out the best in an artist because one doesn’t have time to ponder over too many ideas. I find usually the first idea is the strongest – little like answering a multi answer question in an exam – your first answer is repeatably the correct answer.

My surprise container was about 17cm high with a relatively small opening making it difficult to add any technical fixture. Working with wonderful ‘fluffy’ grass which supported the long leaves randomly. Due to the crowded opening of the massed grasses and leaves I was able to stand the three stunning Sarracenias ‘Pitcher Plants’ vertically, to make a statement.

After the arrangement was complete I took it outside to photograph and the soft breeze brought the work to life
